TRIN Inc.'s Ashley Plant Closure to Cost 155 Jobs in Automotive Parts Sector

Oct 25, 2023

TRIN Inc., a Japanese-owned automotive parts supplier catering to major companies such as Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, Ford, and General Motors, announced the impending closure of its plant in northeastern Indiana, costing 155 jobs. The company's facility in Ashley, Michigan, is set to cease operations on March 31, 2024. The closure affects various roles, including office staff and managers, leading to layoffs. TRIN Inc. specializes in producing motor vehicle components like shift levers, switches, seatbelts, and steering wheels. This decision and the subsequent job cuts are deemed permanent, as mentioned in the federal Warn Act notice sent to the Department of Workforce Development. Although the notice offers the possibility of transferring to a related entity in Michigan, no union represents the plant's employees. The Ashley plant, positioned approximately 30 miles north of Fort Wayne, primarily manufactures switch-related automotive components.
